MADRID’s regional government has published a tender for a 2.5km extension of metro Line 3 from the southern terminus at Villaverde Alto to El Casar on Line 12 and line C3 of the Cercanías suburban network.

The contract is worth almost €112m and will serve an extra one million passengers living south of the Spanish capital.

Work will be carried out over two years to extend Line 3. Work is expected to start on January 1 2022. The plans were confirmed by Ms Isabel Diaz Ayuso, president of the regional government of Madrid.

Currently the only interchange on Line 12 is with Line 10 at Puerta del Sur station. Line 3 runs north via the city centre to Moncloa while C3 offers connections south to Aranjuez and north via Atocha, Sol to the north of Madrid.

It’s expected that the extension will also benefit those living in Alcorcón, Móstoles, Fuenlabrada,Leganés and Getafe.
