HONG Kong operator MTR has awarded a contract for the supply of the signalling system for the Lantau Extension project, comprising the Airport Express Line, the Tung Chung Line and the depot at Siu Ho Wan.

The project involves the extension of the existing Tung Chung Line from Tung Chung station westwards with a new station at Tung Chung West, and the addition of two new stations at the Tung Chung East reclamation area between Sunny Bay and Tung Chung stations.

Alstom will design, supply, integrate, test and commission the signalling featuring its Driving, Operation and Maintenance Support System (Sacem) automatic train control (ATC) system and Smartlock 400 interlocking technology.

The Casco Signal joint venture, which is 51% owned by China Railway Signal and Communication and 49% by Alstom, will supply the automatic train supervision (ATS) subsystem for the project.

To enhance the protection of the extension’s signalling and train control systems, Alstom will set up a digital twin to simulate and thoroughly test the new signalling system, as well as integrate advanced rail cybersecurity measures.

Alstom will also supply HealthHub, its condition-based predictive maintenance system, to continuously monitor point machines to maximise reliability and availability, while optimising lifecycle costs.
