PASSENGER operations began on a 1.8km €380m southern extension of Paris metro line 4 from Mairie de Montrouge to Bagneux-Lucie Aubrac on January 13.

The extension has one intermediate station at Barbara and a new 1500m2 depot and is expected to generate 37,000 extra journeys per day. The existing line was Paris’s second busiest before the Covid-19 pandemic with 700,000 passengers per day.

In 2025 Bagneux-Lucie Aubrac station will become an interchange with Grand Paris Express Line 15, which is currently under construction.

Line 4 is currently being converted to automatic operation, with test running expected to commence later this year, and commercial operations beginning in 2023. 20 of the 52 trains for the line will be of the new MP14 design.
