A $A 246.7m ($US 182.4m) contract to construct the new Midland Station in Perth has been awarded by the West Australian government to the Midland Junction Alliance comprising McConnell Dowell Constructors, Georgiou Group, Arcadis Australia, and BG&E.

The project involves relocating the Midland Station to the Midland town centre, situated 22km northeast of central Perth, and extending the line to Bellevue.

The alliance will design and build the new three-platform station as well as decommission and demolish the existing 53-year-old station.

As well as building the main station building, the Metronet project will include a 12-stand bus interchange, a new multi-storey car park with more than 600 bays, a north-south pedestrian overpass, passenger toilets, eight lifts, stairs, a kiosk and secure parking for 96 bicycles.

The new station is expected to initially see 3300 passenger boardings a day, growing to 3700 by 2031.
