RB Rail plans to nominate a single NoBo service provider for the entire 870km line linking Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius and Poland through the design and construction phases of the project.

RB Rail says the key tasks for the NoBo include checking conformity of trackside infrastructure, the energy subsystem, and command and signalling with TSI requirements.

“Involvement of a NoBo at an early stage of the project is an important step to ensure that Rail Baltica infrastructure, energy, control-command and signalling subsystems will be interoperable, function safely and uninterrupted,” says Mr Mart Nielsen, RB Rail’s chief technical officer. “As an independent and accredited organisation, the NoBo will provide a conformity assessment against the relevant requirements of the European TSI, which are necessary to launch operation of Rail Baltica.”

The Rail Baltica project is currently at the design phase for 411km of the main line, with an additional 233km of design works currently under procurement. In addition, Riga Central and Riga International Airport passenger stations are being designed by the Latvian implementing body.
