The self-propelled vehicle will be equipped with vacuum pumps and hydraulics, enabling it to operate with Railcare’s Railvac vacuum excavator and snow melter. The MPV will also be equipped with driver’s cabs, enabling it to haul ballast wagons and other infrastructure maintenance vehicles.

Railcare is developing the vehicle in collaboration with Swedish mining equipment supplier Epiroc, which recently added electric versions to its range of mining vehicles. Battery technology is being provided by ABB and Northvolt.

The prototype battery MPV will be built and tested at Railcare’s workshop in Skelleftehamn, Sweden, with delivery expected in the second half of this year.
