The project includes the construction of new branch lines from Port Harcourt to Bonny and Owerri, and from Gombe to Damaturu and Gashua, minister of transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, announced on October 7. A connection with the standard gauge network will also be built at Kafanchan.
Amaechi said the FEC had also approved contracts for the construction of a $US 461.9m deep-sea port in Bonny and a railway industrial park in Port Harcourt, to be built under a $US 241.1m public private partnership (PPP).
