RZD will purchase 1 million tonnes of rail, more than 6.5 million reinforced concrete sleepers and more than 12 million m3 of ballast as part of the plan.

The programme will focus on the most-intensively used lines, such as from Kuzbass to the far east, northwest and south, as well as on the main passenger routes from Moscow to Adler and St Petersburg. This will increase the average speed along 800km of passenger lines and 900km of freight lines.

In order to increase RZD’s track maintenance capacity, the company plans to purchase 26 VPO-S track maintenance machines. These will be deployed on the lines such as the Trans-Baikal Railway where, together with the introduction of new technologies, RZD will be able increase the amount of work it can accomplish per day to 3km.
