The machines will be built in association with an Indian technology partner, with more than 50% of the manufacturing completed in India. Initial manufacturing will take place in Kaluga, Russia, with STM in discussions to determine the best site for assembly. The first vehicles will be supplied in 2021.

STM general director, Mr Anton Zubikhin, says the company is looking to position itself as a major player in the Indian market, and has signed contracts worth more than €20m so far in 2020.

“Over the next five years, STM plans to take part in IR’s tender procedures for the supply of more than 2200 track machines,” he says.
