SLOVENIA will receive €90.7m from the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) to modernise and upgrade its railway infrastructure.

Of this, €56.6m has been approved to upgrade infrastructure at Jesenice station between November 1 2022 and October 21 2025.

Another €34.1m has been earmarked to modernise Litija, Zagorje, Trbovlje, Laze pri Dolskem, Šentjur, Ponikva and Rače stations between Ljubljana and Maribor. Work is underway and is due to be completed by August 31 2026.

For both projects, the funds will be used for construction and other works to improve crossings and underpasses, platforms, track and roadbed, and to upgrade electrical equipment.

The grant agreement was signed by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (Cinea) and Slovenia’s Ministry of Infrastructure.
