SPANISH high-speed infrastructure manager Adif  AV has issued a tender for the construction of a depot for the maintenance of its own rolling stock.

The plan is to build the workshop south of the capital Madrid at Adif’s maintenance subbase, where it will be connected to the broad-gauge railway.

It is the first time Adif AV will have had such a facility to maintain the locomotives and trains it uses to carry out network maintenance, exploration and ultrasonic testing of the network.

Maintenance work will be possible on both standard and 1668mm-gauge rolling stock. Adif AV says 22 locomotives bought in November 2019 for exploration, rescue, snowplough, or support duties on the high-speed lines will the first based at the depot.

It will have space for the trains used for ultrasonic testing and so will have maintenance pits, longer buildings and wheel lathes.
