In September 2016 ÖBB selected Bombardier for a framework contract to supply up to 300 Talent 3s, with an initial firm order for 21 class 4758 sets for Vorarlberg, which will enter service from mid-2019 onwards.
Each 104.5m-long six-car train will seat 304 passengers, and the modular interior will enable trains to be configured for carrying bicycles in the summer and skis in the winter.
The 160km/h 15kV 16.7 Hz ac EMUs – branded Cityjet by ÖBB - also feature passenger Wi-Fi, intelligent HVAC systems, LED lighting, low-floor doorways with retractable steps for barrier-free access, and two toilets, one of which will be accessible for passengers with wheelchairs.
Earlier this year ÖBB exercised a €188m option for 25 six-car sets for regional services in the province of Tyrol, including six trains equipped for cross-border operation into Italy. These trains will enter service from 2020 onwards.
