AKIEM has awarded Siemens Mobility a contract for 20 Vectron electric locomotives for use on passenger services in central and south-east Europe as well as Scandinavia.

The 200km/h 6.4MW multisystem locomotives will be equipped with ETCS as well as the required national train control systems.

The order is the first part of a framework purchase agreement for locomotives, ancillary equipment and services signed by Akiem and Siemens in August.

These are the first Vectrons ordered by Akiem. French National Railways (SNCF) owns Akiem and is reported to be considering selling the rolling stock business.
