CZECH Railways (ČD) has ordered 50 Vectron MS multisystem locomotives from Siemens Mobility. The locomotives have a top speed of 230km/h, making them suitable for operation on both high-speed and conventional lines.

The contract also includes 15 years’ maintenance. Delivery will start from December 2025.

The locomotives will be manufactured at Siemens Mobility’s plant in Munich-Allach, Germany. They will be equipped with Siemens’ Trainguard 100/200/300 on-board ETCS system and are equipped for operation in the Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovakia and Hungary. ČD plans to operate the locomotives on the Prague - Hamburg, Prague - Vienna - Graz, and Prague - Budapest lines.

"We have very good experience with Vectron locomotives from Siemens,” says Mr Michal Kraus, vice-chairman of the ČD board of directors of and deputy director general for maintenance. “We currently operate 18 of these locomotives, and others are used by our subsidiary ČD Cargo. We will deploy them together with 20 ComfortJet non-traction trainsets and they can also run with our Czech Railjets.”
