BEACON Rail and GB Railfreight (GBRF) have signed an agreement with Stadler for 30 class 99 Eurodual bi-mode Co-Co locomotives including spare parts.
The 120km/h locomotive can operate under 25kV electrification, with an output of up to 6MW, or under diesel traction using a high-power low-emissions Stage-V engine. Deliveries are due to begin in 2025.
Stadler says the class 99 locomotive has a tractive effort of up to 500kN, high hauling capability and performance, and offers optimal visibility and an excellent working environment for drivers, including ergonomic cab desks.
