Under the terms of the agreement, GE will work with PT KAI to improve maintenance practices at its Yogyakarta depot to maximise availability of the approximately 250 GE locomotives in the PT KAI fleet. GE will set up a traction motor remanufacturing centre at the depot that is intended to serve the entire region, and also establish a regional distribution service for supply of spare parts to PT KAI facilities across Indonesia.
GE will retrain PT KAI staff in the latest maintenance practices and remanufacturing traction motors in both Indonesia and the United States.
