GWA001 is a 3.21MW standard-gauge unit built by Downer Rail, Australia, and powered by an EMD710G3 series engine.

The GT46C-ACe is the first of seven to be delivered by Downer and is the first new purchase since parent company GWI entered the Australian market in 1997. The locomotives will replace a number of less powerful units currently on lease for Darwin line intermodal and bulk mineral haulage. An additional nine GE-powered locomotives will be supplied by UGL Rail commencing next year for mining contracts.
