The facility was built in less than a year and has been maintaining and repairing electric locomotives since September 9, when the rail connection to the Dutch railway network was approved.

LWR is a 50:50 joint venture between locomotive train leasing company Mitsui Rail Capital Europe (MRCE) and Siemens Mobility, which delivered the vast majority of MRCE’s locomotive fleet. However, the workshop is also open to third-party locomotives.

The workshop can offer preventative and corrective maintenance, inspections and updates, including for ETCS onboard equipment. The facility has eight tracks for stabling locomotives and six maintenance tracks. There is also the possibility to double the workshop’s capacity if demands warrants.

Locomotives are cleaned in the ‘washing pit’ situated on one of the tracks where fuel and oil can be removed from diesel locomotives. The facility’s wheel lathe is also open to other traction types. The units enter the workshop via a traverser installed by Dutch company Bemo Rail.
