The locomotive is part of an order that Metrans placed with Siemens in April, which are being manufactured at Siemens’ factory in Allach, Munich. The order is due to be completed by spring 2020, and Metrans will deploy the new locomotives on transnational freight services across central and eastern Europe.

The new locomotives have a maximum output of 6.4MW and a top speed of 160km/h. They are equipped with the required national train control systems along with ETCS. The locomotives are certified to operate in Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, and can be upgraded for operation in Bulgaria, Croatia, the Netherlands, Romania, Serbia and Slovenia.
