The locomotive is permitted to operate on the Swiss network in multiple with another locomotive. One of the first customers for Traxx AC Last Mile is Swiss railfreight operator BLS Cargo, which will use three locomotives ordered by leasing company Railpool. The Swiss Railway Act requires the application for an Authorisation to Place in Service (APS) to be submitted by a train operator, which in this case is BLS Cargo.

Bombardier and BLS Cargo are now working towards gaining a full APS for the type, which will allow the locomotives to operate independently in revenue service.
