The locomotives are from a framework order for 25 Smartrons, which was placed at the end of 2018. The investment was made by Paribus Holding on behalf of Paris-based RIVE Private Investment.
Northrail will be responsible for asset management of all locomotives procured through the framework order.
Northrail is the first leasing company to offer the Smartron although Siemens has received orders for the design from rail freight operators including Infraleuna and EGP.
The 5.6MW 15kV ac locomotives will be built at Siemens’ Munich Allach facility.
