Prima 2 is equipped with drivers desks designed to meet the forthcoming
UIC 612 interoperability standard, and Alstom's TrainTracer onboard
diagnostic system. It will also carry Alstom Atlas signalling
equipment, which is compatible with the European Rail Traffic
Management System (ERTMS).
The prototype locomotive will move to
Siemens' Wildenrath test circuit in Germany later this month for the
start of trial operations, and certification for operation in Europe is
due to be completed in 2011.
The first Prima 2 customer is
Moroccan National Railways (ONCFM), which ordered 20 locomotives in
November 2007 for use on passenger and freight trains. Delivery will
begin in the third quarter of this year.
