The Danish Ministry of Transport and the municipalities of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg have exercised an option in the Euros 700m contract awarded to Ansaldo STS in January (IRJ February p12) for Ansaldo STS to supply a fleet of 28 three-car trains worth Euros 122m. The construction of the trains for the new automated Cityring Line will be sub-contracted to AnsaldoBreda.
Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation has placed a Euros 46m contract with Ansaldo STS to design and install the train control, signalling and telecommunications systems for the new 14.5km East - West Line. Work will begin next month and is due to be completed in early 2016. The line will connect Kolkata with Howrah on the west bank of the Hooghly River. It will be underground for 8.9km and elevated for 5.8km with 12 stations.
Finally, Ansaldo STS has won a Euros 15m contract to supply signalling and telecommunications equipment as part of a consortium with Salini Costruttori and Vianini Lavori which has a concession to design and build an extension to Line B of the Rome metro. The project will extend the line from Rebibbia to Casal Monastero.
