The group comprising Atkins, Vössing, EKJ Consulting Engineers, and
Sweco, will be responsible for delivering detailed alignment design,
full procurement strategy, programme logistics for construction sites,
and detailed track and catenary design on the 60km Copenhagen - Køge -
Ringsted line. The consortium fended off competition from four other
international groups to clinch the contract.

Preparatory works are already underway on the DKr 10 billion ($US 1.8
million) project and full construction is expected to begin in the
second half of 2013. The line will open in 2018 with trains initially
running at up to 200km/h until the high-speed line is fully
commissioned.

The double-track line includes a new station at Køge North and will largely follow the existing highway.
