The 28.8km elevated railway provides two types of service. The non-stop Express service runs every 30 minutes between City Air Terminal (CAT) at Makkasan and the airport with a 15-minute journey time. Later this year, air passengers will be able to check-in their bags at CAT. The City Line service runs at 15-minute intervals between Phaya Thai and the airport. This service takes 30 minutes as it stops at seven intermediate stations. A premium fare of Baht 150 ($US 4.76) is being charged for the Express service compared with a maximum fare of Baht 45 for the City Line.
The standard-gauge line has been built and equipped by a consortium of Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction, B Grimm International, and Siemens. The service is being operated by State Railway of Thailand.
