The vehicles will be built at Bombadier's sites in Dandenong, Victoria,
and Maryborough, Queensland, with the first deliveries due to coincide
with the completion of the Noarlunga-Seaford extension in 2013. This is
the first Adelaide suburban line to be electrified and is part of a $A
2 billion 10-year investment in the city's public transport network.

adelaide-emu.jpgThe 110km/h emus will seat 240 passengers and up to 300 standees, and
will feature air-conditioning designed to cope with Adelaide's hot
summers.

The A-City fleet will be complemented by a previously announced $A 37
million programme to refurbish the existing fleet of 3000/3100 class
demus, 54 of which will be converted to emus from 2013-15. The
remaining 16 demus will be retained to operate on the Belair line which
is not due to be electrified under the current programme.
