The metro is being extended to 47km and the number of stations is being increased from 21 to 29. The ATO equipment, which will also be fitted to the existing fleet of 20 trains, will enable the metro to reduce headways from 4.5 to 3 minutes. The project will enable Metro-DF to double the capacity of the metro to 300,000 passengers a day.
Brasilia Metro awards contract to Alstom
METRO-DF, which operates the 41km broad-gauge metro in the Brazilian capital, Brasilia, has awarded a Euros 110 million contract to Alstom to supply 48 four-car Metropolis trains and install automatic train operation (ATO).
