The 380km/h trains will be assembled at Sifang's plant in Qingdao,
which is currently manufacturing a fleet of 20 16-car 250km/h Zefiro
sleeper trains for MOR, and 20 similar trains with conventional
seating.
China is investing massively in what will soon be the
world's largest high-speed network, with 13,000km of
passenger-dedicated lines (PDLs) due to open by 2012 and a further
3000km by 2020. At the core of this network is the Beijing - Shanghai
Line, which has been designed for 350km/h operation and will halve
journey times between the two cities to 5 hours when it opens in 2012.
MOR expects to have a fleet of 800 high-speed trains in service by
2012.
