The kits are designed to reduce emissions of nitrous oxide by around
34% and particulates by 37%, and will be fitted at DSB's workshops in
Copenhagen from March, with two locomotives being modified each week.
The modifications are compliant with United States Environmental
Protection Agency Tier 0 standards, which are applied to locomotives
manufactured between 1973 and 2001 that have subsequently been rebuilt.

DSB had intended to dispense with its remaining mainline diesel
locomotives, but the late delivery of AnsaldoBreda IC4 dmus means there
is still a long-term requirement for the ME fleet.
