THE European Commission (EC) has invited applications for up to Euros 100m in funding for projects related to the development of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) as part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) programme. An information day was held in Brussels today to help applicants understand the priorities, prepare their proposals, and learn about the evaluation process.
The deadline for submitting proposals is September 23. Proposals will be evaluated on their relevance to TEN-T priorities and objectives, maturity, economic and environmental impact, and their quality. Smaller sums are also being made available to two water-related projects.
"Funding these projects will make our infrastructure more efficient, through the use of improved traffic management and information systems, as well as shifting road freight to other modes such as rail," says the EC's vice-president Mr Siim Kallas.
