The Bergen Variobahn has a maximum capacity of 229 passengers and seats
80. The vehicles are designed to allow the installation of two
additional modules, which would take their length to 44m and increase
capacity to 350 passengers. All 15 stations have been built to
accommodate the lengthened LRVs.
The first 9.8km phase of Line 1
will link Nesttun Centre with Fantoft, Brann Stadium and Byparken in
the city centre. Although most of the line runs in a valley,
significant tunnelling was required with 28% of the line (2.5km)
underground.
The line is due to open on June 22 next year and will
be operated by Fjord1 Partner, a joint venture between Fjord1, Norway,
(51%) and Keolis, France, (49%) which has a six-year contract with two
options for one-year extensions.
