first light rail line on Queensland's Gold Coast. Gold Coast City Council has already pledged $A 150 million towards the $A 850 million project and construction is expected to begin next year.

The first phase of the project will open in 2013 and will connect Griffith University with Broadbeach, while extensions to Helensvale and Burleigh Heads will be completed in 2015.
