"Ted was a prolific and authoritative writer about rail and metro developments in Brazil," says IRJ's editor-in-chief, David Briginshaw. "He charted the demise of state-run railways in Brazil, rail privatisation, and the subsequent resurgence of railfreight. He also reported on the expansion of metros and commuter rail, and Brazil's latest plans to build a high-speed line."
Ted leaves his wife Marli Felix de Araujo, son Cesar and three grandchildren.
IRJ’s Brazilian regional editor dies
WE regret to announce the sudden death of Theodor (Ted) Gevert, IRJ's regional editor for Brazil. Ted started his long career writing for IRJ in 1976 and was IRJ's longest-serving correspondent. Ted had a huge knowledge of the railway industry in Brazil having worked in it both directly and as a consultant, and was equally at home writing about mainline railways and transit systems. Latterly, Ted had a wider brief and was reporting for IRJ on the rapid developments taking place throughout South America.
