Ansaldo STS' share of the contract is worth Euros 149 million. AnsaldoBreda will supply a fleet of 22 two-car aluminium trains worth Euros 69 million. Each train will be 28.7m long and 2.65m wide, and will be able to carry 143 passengers. Trains will be air-conditioned and will be equipped with systems to reduce noise and vibration.
Italians win Saudi automatic metro contract
ANSALDO STS, leader of a consortium formed with AnsaldoBreda, has won a Euros 218 million contract to design, build and put into operation an automatic light metro on the campus of the new Princess Noura Bint Abdulrahman woman's university being constructed by the Saudi Binladen Group in the Saudi capital, Riyadh. Not only will this be the first metro to be built in Saudi Arabia, it will also be the first to serve a university.
