chorlton.jpgThe line from Trafford Bar has four stations and was built on the
alignment of an abandoned railway. The MPact-Thales consortium of Laing
O'Rourke, VolkerRail and Thales began construction in August 2009.

Phase 3A will add 31.9km and 28 stations to the Metrolink network, and
includes a new line to Droylsden and the conversion of the heavy rail
line to Rochdale via Oldham to light rail operation. Trams will begin
running to Oldham in the autumn, and to Rochdale and Droylsden in the
second quarter of next year.

Construction is already underway on two extensions from St Werburgh's
Road to East Didsbury (4.5km) and Manchester Airport (14.5km) as part
of the Phase 3B expansion of the network.
