The new cars, which will be formed into 52 nine-car trains, will be designed, manufactured and assembled at Bombardier's facilities in La Pocatière and Saint-Bruno, Quebec, and at Alstom's sites in Sorel-Tracy and Montreal.
 
montreal_metro.jpgDesigned to emphasise maximising space and safety, the cars will feature open gangways, spacious interiors, and the latest electronic passenger information and security systems. In compliance with the contract, the cars will include 60% Canadian content with final assembly to take place in Canada.
 
The first prototype is scheduled to arrive in June 2013 with the entire fleet to be delivered between February 2014 and September 2018. STM operates a four-line, 66km network and carries an average of 850,000 passengers per day.
