The idea is to implement a signalling scheme from a small range of core components with the objective of reducing both capital and operating costs. Modular signalling, which is aimed at regional lines, should be faster to install than conventional signalling, and more flexible as it should be easier to make minor modifications to it at a later date.
Network Rail awards first modular signalling contract
BRITAIN's infrastructure manager, Network Rail, has awarded its first contract for a so-called modular signalling system to Westinghouse Rail Systems. The contract will run until May next year and involves development and a demonstration of the proposed system on a pilot line between Crewe and Shrewsbury.
