Harsco operates and maintains a fleet of up to five point grinding units in Britain that perform regular rail grinding of point and crossing trackwork. Rail grinding re-profiles railhead contours for extended rail life and smoother operation, reducing fuel costs and noise. Grinding also corrects surface damage that could lead to rail fractures.

Harsco has provided railway track services to NR and its predecessor Railtrack since 1997.

Meanwhile, Harsco announced this week that it has secured a $US 15m deal from Saudi Arabia for track maintenance and related equipment to support the 2300km, $US 2bn North-South railway project.
