The Smartmobility system will enable Rabat authorities to effectively coordinate interactions between trains on the new light rail network and city traffic to reduce delays and increase road safety. The system uses radio frequencies and magnetic inductions to detect the presence of a train as it approaches a junction, and can decide whether to give priority to an LRV over road vehicles depending on traffic conditions which are measured by micro-regulation tools positioned at junctions.
As part of the contract, Telvent will develop and install management software for the system as well as provide traffic regulators, and road and rail LED signalling for the line.
