Train services will operate daily from 05.30 to 20.30 on the line with trains running at 12-minute intervals during weekday peak periods and at 20 minute intervals during off-peak hours. Trains will operate at 30-minute intervals at weekends.
The remaining section of the line from Johannesburg Park to Rosebank will open at an unconfirmed date after additional engineering works are completed. Journey on the entire 63km line will take 42 minutes.
The first phase of the service between OR Tambo International Airport and Sandton opened in June 2010 to coincide with 2010 World Cup. The network will be served by 24 160km/h Bombardier Electrostar emus which are based on Britain's class 357. Construction on the entire 80km network began in September 2006 at a cost of Rand 25bn ($US 3.7bn).
