The cuts are planned for Sydney’s Cityrail commuter operation, and Railcorp chief executive Mr Rob Mason says one station manager can supervise up to six stations remotely. The union warns that moves to de-staff stations will make the service less attractive, particularly to disabled and elderly passengers.

Cost-saving plans announced in March by the New South Wales government proposed retraining 240 station staff as carriage cleaners, with another 357 station staff set to be cut.
