It is hoped to sign the concession agreement by the end of the year. Construction is expected to start by the end of 2011 provided all the necessary authorisations have been obtained.
The project will extend the existing Paris - Tours high-speed line south via Poitiers to Bordeaux, and involves the construction of 302km of high-speed line and 38km of connecting links. The new line will cut the Paris - Bordeaux journey time by 65 minutes to 2h 5min and Paris - Toulouse to 4h 17min when it opens in 2016.
