The Nevsky Express derailed near the village of Uglovka, 350km north of Moscow, at 9.34pm local time. The 14-coach train was reportedly travelling at 200km/h when the incident occured, with 682 passengers with 29 staff on board.

Investigators have found traces of an explosive device, reportedly the equivalent of 7kg, of TNT at the scene of the derailment and a criminal investigation is now underway.
