Australia's largest private rail operator, Pacific National (PN), has ordered nine class 7100 locomotives for coal transport in Queensland. The order complements PN's existing fleet of 23 class 7100s ordered in 2007, with the new locomotives set to be manufactured in Munich.

In Austria, Wiener Lokalbahnen Cargo (WLC), a the open access railfreight subsidiary of Wiener Stadtwerke, has ordered four Taurus locomotives to operate on the east-west axis from Hamburg to Budapest. The locomotives will also be manufactured in Munich and at Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) technical service facility in Linz.

"The orders provide proof that investment in the freight transport sector are rising again," says Mr Hans-Jörg Grundmann, CEO of Siemens Mobility.
