The Desiro City will run on lightweight low-track-force Asyntegra
bogies, which will feature inboard bearings and integrated
bogie-mounted traction motors.
Siemens says the aluminium-bodied train will be 25% lighter than
existing British Desiro fleets and will feature improved aerodynamics
to help reduce energy consumption. The trains will be equipped with
intelligent energy management, meaning on the performance of the
traction systems. they will be able to monitor their own energy
consumption and provide real-time information to the driver Desiro City
will also have LED lighting and a low-power ‘sleep' mode to save energy
during stabling.
In keeping with the Thameslink specification, Desiro City will be
offered initially as a dual system (25kV ac and 750V dc) train with
half of the axles powered.
