The LRV, one of 22 double units manufactured for the Rabat-Salé Tramway Society (STRS), made an initial test run on a test track located in the Hay Karima district of Salé. The tests aim to examine the interface between rolling stock, the catenary system and track, as well as verify traction, braking and speed performance. Testing is set to continue until construction of the entire network is complete, with the final LRVs expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2011.

Specifically designed for the Rabat-Salé network, the LRVs include a customised driver's cabin as well as interior and exterior fittings inspired by Moroccan culture and Rabat's artistic heritage. Each LRV has 118 seats and is capable of transporting 500 passengers. The 20km, two-line network is expected to serve 180,000 daily

passengers from 31 stations when it opens late this year.
