trenitalia-zefiro.jpgThe eight-car ETR1000 is based on Bombardier's V300
Zefiro platform and will have a commercial speed of 360km/h and a
maximum speed of 400km/h. The 200m-long multi-system trains will
accommodate up to 600 passengers and will be approved for operation in
eight different countries, including France.

The trains will be built, tested, and commissioned at various
AnsaldoBreda sites around Italy, and Bombardier's facility in Vado
Ligure. A prototype train will be delivered within 30 months and series
production will begin 12-15 months later.

Trenitalia unveiled the consortium as preferred bidder on August 5, but
signing of the contract was delayed after Alstom, the only competitor,
filed a request with the Lazio administrative court for the tender to
be suspended.

The contract makes Trenitalia the launch customer for the V300 variant
of Zefiro, although Bombardier has already sold the V250 and V380
versions of the train in China. The signing of this latest deal takes
the total number of Zefiros in service or on order to 210.
