The order includes the first driving cars in the IC2 fleet, which at
present consists entirely of conventionally-hauled stock. The need to
release locomotives at the end of a journey is currently a major
operating constraint at terminal stations, particularly Helsinki, where
additional peak capacity is urgently needed.

vr-double-deck.jpgThe order also represents VR's first purchase of double-deck restaurant cars, which seat 50 passengers on each deck.

Transtech recently completed the delivery of 20 double-deck sleeping
cars to VR and is currently supplying a further batch 40 day coaches,
which will be delivered by 2012. The latest contract takes the total
number of IC2 vehicles ordered by VR to 219.
