The upgrade includes duplication of a 17km single-track section between Deer Park West and Melton, and a further 3km section east of Warrenheip. New crossing loops will be built, along with train stabling facilities at Melton and Rowsley.

Additional platforms will also be constructed at Bacchus Marsh and Ballan stations, and the existing platforms at Rockbank will be extended.

The works will support more frequent and reliable services to Ballarat, Melton and Melbourne’s west, while laying the foundation for future electrification of the line as far as Melton.

Major construction on the Ballarat Line Upgrade will start early in 2018, with the project to be completed by late 2019.

The RFP documentation is available at www.tenders.vic.gov.au and responses are due by May 1 2017.
