Phase one of the project, which began operating on August 12, connects the AC Transit, Greyhound, Amtrak, WestCAT Lynx and Muni Treasure Island Line on the bus deck, while phase two, which is due to open between 2020 and 2025, will bring Caltrain commuter rail services and eventually California High Speed Rail trains from Southern California into an underground station.

The multi-level regional transit hub in downtown San Francisco has four stories above ground and two below, and features a 2-hectare rooftop public park, more than 30,000m2 of retail space, bicycle parking and administrative offices. It is also located close to Bart, Muni Metro, Golden Gate Transit and SamTrans connections.

San Francisco’s mayor, Ms London Breed, House Democratic Leader, Mrs Nancy Pelosi, and regional, state and federal leaders joined the Transbay Joint Powers Authority (TJPA) to celebrate the completion of the new Salesforce Transit Center.

The project was funded by the US Department of Transportation, State of California, Metropolitan Transportation Commission, San Francisco County Transportation Authority, City and County of San Francisco, San Mateo County Transportation Authority and AC Transit. The transit centre’s name is the result of a naming rights agreement with Salesforce.

The centre, built by WebcorObayashi Joint Venture, is owned and operated by the TJPA, managed by Lincoln Property and designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects.
